Sherman works all alone in her studio. She does many jobs at once. She is the model, the director, and the hair stylist. She even picks the clothes. She says it feels like magic when she becomes a new person. She looks in a mirror to help her feel the part.

One of her most famous works is called Untitled Film Stills. This is a set of 70 black-and-white photos. In these pictures, she looks like characters from old movies. She might look like a librarian or a woman on a beach. These photos make people think about how movies show women.

Later, she started using color in her art. She made series like Centerfolds. These photos were inspired by fashion magazines. She also made art using mannequins, which are models that do not move. Her work helps us see the many roles people play in life.
