Many different groups of people have lived here. For thousands of years, the Tehuelche people lived as hunter-gatherers. They moved across the land to follow animals. Later, Spanish missionaries built the San José Fort. In 1865, Welsh people arrived on a ship called the Mimosa. They settled in the Chubut Valley.

Other people from Spain, Italy, and Chile also moved to the area. In 1955, Chubut officially became a province.

Chubut is a very windy place. The wind comes from the west, southwest, or northwest. This wind helps keep the land dry by drying out the moisture.

The weather changes depending on where you are. The mountains are cold and wet. The central plains are hot and sunny in the summer. The coast is the warmest part of the province. In the summer, the coast can feel much warmer than the areas to the south.
