Long ago, a kingdom called Chiang Hung was formed.

Jinghong
Jinghong

It was home to the Tai Lü people. A leader named Phanya Coeng started the kingdom in 1180. Later, King Inmueng made the land much larger. He ruled many Tai kingdoms in the north.

Over time, many powerful groups wanted to rule the land. The Yuan dynasty from China took control in 1290. Later, the Burmese people ruled for three hundred years. They divided the land into twelve districts. The Tai Lü people called these districts Sipsong Panna.

Fighting between leaders caused much trouble in 1847. This chaos made many people leave their homes. They moved to places like Thailand and Laos to find safety. Today, many Tai Lü people still live in those areas. The capital city was once called Chiang Hung. Now, people know it as Jinghong.
