He was born in a place called Thieytou. He grew up in a Muslim family. As a young man, he went to Paris to study. He learned many things there. He studied math, philosophy, and chemistry. Later, he even studied nuclear physics.

Diop wanted to learn about the past. He studied ancient Egypt. He argued that ancient Egyptians were Black people. He believed their culture spread to West Africa. To prove this, he used science. He studied mummies and blood types. He also looked at how people's bodies were shaped.

His ideas were very bold. Some scholars disagreed with him. They thought his sources were old. Other scholars defended his work. They felt his ideas were being treated unfairly. Diop's work helped change how people study African history. Today, a large school in Dakar is named after him. He is remembered for his many studies.
