New groups of people moved to this land long ago. These people were called the Chaldeans. They came from a place called the Levant. They arrived between the 11th and 9th centuries BC. At that time, the kingdom of Babylonia was weak. This allowed new tribes to settle there.

For a long time, the Chaldeans lived quietly. They were ruled by the kings of Babylon. They also lived under the powerful Assyrian Empire.

Over time, the Chaldeans changed. They began to use the language and customs of the local people.

Later, the Chaldeans became very powerful. A ruling family took control of Babylon. This was the Neo-Babylonian Empire. It lasted from 626 BC to 539 BC. This was the height of their power. Many people remember this era as the Chaldean dynasty. Even though they were different at first, they shaped the history of the region.
