Chaac helps plants like maize grow. This makes him a patron of farming. Some myths say he used his axe to open a mountain. This let people find hidden maize. Other stories say his tears create the rain.

In the past, Maya kings acted like Chaac. They might dress up as the god. This showed they could bring rain to the land. Even today, Chaac is important to some Maya groups. Some people believe he can be upset. They may see big storms as a sign of his anger.
