Ceratosaurus had a very special look. It had a ridge-like horn on its snout. It also had a pair of horns over its eyes. Its jaws were deep. These jaws held very long, blade-like teeth.

A row of small skin bones, called osteoderms, grew down its neck, back, and tail. Its arms were very short. But its hands still worked well. The hands had four fingers. The first three fingers had claws.

Scientists first found its bones in 1884. A farmer named Marshall Parker Felch found them in Colorado. This first skeleton was nearly complete. It helped scientists learn much about this animal. Some scientists think other fossils found in Utah and Colorado were different species. Now, most think they were just different ages of the same dinosaur.
