The Celtic nations are a group of people who share a common identity. They are connected through their unique culture and traditional lands. This group includes six main regions in Northwestern Europe. These are Brittany, Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and the Isle of Man.

People in these places feel a strong sense of togetherness. They use their shared history to stay connected to one another. This bond is celebrated through many different traditions and customs.

Each of these six nations has its own special language. In Brittany, Cornwall, and Wales, people speak Brittonic languages like Breton, Cornish, or Welsh. In Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man, people speak Goidelic languages like Irish, Scottish Gaelic, or Manx.

Some languages, like Welsh, are spoken by many people every day. In Wales, you can see signs written in two languages. In Ireland, there are special areas called the Gaeltacht where Irish is used daily. Even in places where languages once faded, like Cornwall, people are working hard to bring them back.

Long ago, Celtic-speaking cultures covered much of Europe. This happened before the expansion of ancient Rome and the spread of other tribes.

You can still see traces of this history in the land today. In parts of Spain, like Galicia and Asturias, archaeologists found old hill forts called castros.

These forts and old objects show how Celtic people lived during the Iron Age. Even where the languages are no longer spoken, the old names of places often have Celtic roots.

There are many interesting facts about these languages and people. In the 2000s, there were about one million native speakers of Celtic languages. By 2010, that number grew to more than 1.4 million speakers.

These languages are part of a very large family called Indo-European. Some Celtic traditions even traveled far away across the ocean. For example, some people in Canada speak Canadian Gaelic. There is even a group of Welsh speakers living in Argentina called Y Wladfa.

Today, the Celtic nations come together to celebrate their shared pride. They hold huge festivals filled with music and dance. One famous event is the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany.

They also compete against each other in friendly sports. They play games like rugby union and association football. These events, along with groups like the Celtic League, help keep their culture strong. They make sure that the Celtic way of life continues for many years to come.
