A big group of nerves sits in your belly. This is the celiac plexus. Some people call it the solar plexus. The name comes from how the nerves spread out.

This group is behind your stomach. It sits near big tubes that carry blood. It is also near the diaphragm. The diaphragm is the muscle that helps you breathe.

Many smaller nerves join to make this big group. It has parts called ganglia. These are small clusters of nerve cells.

A hit to the belly can hurt this area. It might hit the diaphragm. This can make the muscle spasm. It can feel like the wind was knocked out of you. This makes it hard to breathe.

Most of the time, rest helps. Deep breaths can help too. Sometimes, people have very bad pain. Doctors can help with this pain. They use special scans to see inside. They can give an injection to block the pain. This helps people with certain sicknesses feel better.
