Many people think she was the best female poet from her country. She did not like the word "poetess" because of how people treated women. Her writing was often about deep things like time and quiet thought. She was a key part of a movement called Brazilian Modernism. This movement helped change how art was made in her home country.

Cecília used many different ways to share her ideas. She wrote poems that used traditional shapes and styles. She also wrote plays and books for children. As a journalist, she wrote columns called "crônicas," which are like short stories or reports. She often wrote about how to make schools better for everyone. She even helped plan new libraries for children to use. She wanted all kids to have a place to learn and read.

Her life as a writer began when she was quite young. She published her first book of poems at age eighteen. This book was called "Espectros," which means Specters. It had seventeen sonnets about famous people from history. Later, she published a very important book called "Viagem," or Voyage. This book was released in 1939 and won a big prize. The Brazilian Academy of Letters gave her their annual Poetry Prize in 1938.

Cecília was also a great traveler who saw much of the world.

She also went to India and learned to speak Hindi and Sanskrit. India had a big effect on the things she wrote about. She even received an honorary doctorate there for her work.

Her work connects many different cultures and ideas together. She translated books from many languages into Portuguese. She translated works by writers from Russia, France, and India. Her poems often used the sea as a beautiful image. One book she wrote about the sea was called "Mar Absoluto." She also wrote "Romanceiro da Inconfidência" about a group of people in Brazil. This book was written in the style of old songs from long ago. Her writing remains a special part of Brazilian history today.
