He led two large lands at the same time. He was the Grand Duke of Lithuania starting in 1440. Later, in 1447, he also became the King of Poland. His family, the Jagiellon dynasty, became a leading royal house. Under his rule, Poland and Lithuania became much stronger. This helped them play a big part in international relations.

Casimir's early life was not always easy. His father was King Władysław II Jagiełło. His mother was Sophia of Halshany. Some people spread mean rumors about his mother. They questioned if he was truly the king's son. This was a big scandal at the time. However, Casimir looked much like his father. The rumors eventually went away after his mother swore she was innocent.

Casimir became a leader at a very young age.

In 1440, he was named Grand Duke of Lithuania. This happened because the previous leader died suddenly. Many Polish nobles wanted to control Lithuania. But Lithuanian leaders supported Casimir instead. He was only thirteen years old then. He learned the Lithuanian language and customs from court officials.

He was a very active king during his reign.

One of his biggest wins was the Thirteen Years' War. This war lasted from 1454 to 1466. He fought against the Teutonic Knights. Casimir's armies won several important battles. For example, they won at the Battle of Świecino in 1462. He also won a battle at the Vistula Lagoon. Because of these wins, he brought Prussia under Polish rule.

Casimir's rule changed how the country worked.

Trade grew very fast during his time. People made more goods and moved them to new places. This helped mining and crafts grow too. He even received the Order of the Garter from England. This was a very high honor. He ruled until he died in 1492.
