Cash (unit)

society Maturity 11-13 Next article →

A cash is a way to weigh things. It is a unit of weight from China. People call it a cash or a li.

British explorers saw this unit used long ago. They saw it in the 1830s. At that time, they were trading in China. They were in lands ruled by the Qing.

This unit is also used in Hong Kong. There is a law there for weights. This law is called the Weights and Measures Ordinance. Under this law, one cash is about 3.73 grams. A gram is a tiny unit of weight.

A cash is also known by other names. It can be called a candareen. It can also be called a catty. These are just different names for the same thing. It is a way to measure mass. Mass is how much matter is in an object. Using these units helps people know how heavy things are. This helps with trade and counting goods.
