Carthage grew into a very rich trading center. It was a leader in the Mediterranean sea. The city had two large harbors. One harbor was for trade ships. The other was for a big navy of 220 warships.

The city had massive walls to keep it safe. These walls were very thick and strong. In 146 BC, a long war with Rome ended the city. The Romans destroyed Carthage during the Third Punic War.
