Bellman created his music using a special kind of cleverness. He often used a technique called musical parody. This means he would take an existing tune and change it. He used these tunes to tell new, funny stories. He was also a master of the cittern. This is a string instrument with twelve strings in six pairs.

When he performed, he combined words and music very carefully. The music would show feelings that the words alone might miss. He used precise rhythms to frame his wild stories. This made his songs feel both organized and exciting.

Bellman was born on February 4, 1740, in Stockholm.
