He did this through the Bergius process and the production of methanol. These advancements expanded the capabilities of the chemical industry significantly. His ability to move science from a small table to a massive factory was unique. 
Bosch's scientific contributions had a massive global impact. It is estimated that one-third of annual global food production relies on ammonia from his process. This supports nearly half of the current world population. Today, the Haber–Bosch process produces 100 million tons of nitrogen fertilizer every year. In fact, about one-half of the nitrogen in a human body comes from these synthetic sources. Because of these massive contributions, Bosch won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1931. He shared this honor with Friedrich Bergius for their work in high-pressure chemistry.
In his professional life, Bosch held many leadership roles. He worked at BASF, which was Germany's largest chemical and dye firm. In 1925, he helped found IG Farben and served as its first head. He also served as the President of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society starting in 1937. Throughout his career, he received many honors. These included the Siemens-Ring in 1924 and the Bunsen Medal. He was even recognized with an honorary doctorate from Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe in 1918.
Bosch's life was also marked by his personal values and interests. He was a critic of the Nazi regime and its repressive policies. He opposed their anti-Semitism and their control over science and industry. This opposition led to his gradual marginalization within the companies he helped lead.
