The Cévennes is a land of mountains in south-central France.

It sits on the edge of the Massif Central. Many rivers start in these hills. Some rivers flow to the Atlantic Ocean. Other rivers flow to the Mediterranean Sea.

People have lived here for a very long time. They built large stone circles a long time ago. These are called megaliths. The mountains also have deep canyons. These are narrow valleys with steep sides.

The weather can change quickly here. When cold air meets warm air, it brings heavy rain. This can cause floods. Some people in the region are called Cévenols. Many live in a special area called the Cévennes National Park. This park helps protect the land and the animals. In the past, people used the hills to raise sheep. They still use old roads and water paths made long ago. The mountains are a beautiful place to see.
