Most bunk beds have four poles for support. A ladder or stairs help you reach the top. The top bed usually has a railing. This rail keeps the sleeper from falling. Some beds even have a privacy curtain on the bottom.

There are many different types. A standard bunk has two same-sized mattresses. A twin over full bunk has a large bottom bed. A full over full bunk can sleep four people. Some have a futon on the bottom. A futon is a couch that turns into a bed.
