They bring a buyer and a seller together. This person acts as a middleman. They help make a deal happen.

Brokers use many tools to find people. They look for the best match for a deal. A real estate broker helps people buy or sell homes. A stockbroker helps people trade stocks. Some brokers also give out market data. This data helps people learn about prices.

Brokers get paid for their work. This fee is called a commission. Some brokers are called discount brokers. They charge a small commission. They might give less advice than other firms.

Sometimes a broker also acts as a buyer or seller. This is called a broker-dealer. In the United States, rules keep brokers safe. Groups like the SEC and FINRA watch them. These groups make sure brokers follow the law. This helps keep the market fair for everyone.
