history Maturity 9-11 Next article →

The Book of Han is a very important history book. It tells the story of the Western Han dynasty. This ruling family held power from 206 BCE to 23 CE. A man named Ban Gu wrote much of the book. His sister, Ban Zhao, helped him finish the work. She finished it in 111 CE. This was many years after her brother died.

The book has 100 parts. Some parts tell stories about emperors. Other parts are tables that show important dates. Some parts are called treatises. A treatise is a written study of one topic. These studies cover law, science, and geography. One part even talks about the stars. Another part talks about music.

This book is a great way to learn about the past. It is the best source for many things. For example, it tells us about old literature. It also tells us about people in Japan. The book helped set the way for other history books. Scholars still use it to study the Han period today.
