In the early days, Jon Bon Jovi recorded a song called "Runaway" in his cousin's studio. He used local musicians to help him finish the track. Later, the band moved to Vancouver, Canada, to record for six months. This helped them create the album Slippery When Wet. They worked with a producer named Bruce Fairbairn and a songwriter named Desmond Child. This new way of working helped them make songs that many people loved. They even tried adding country music sounds to some of their later songs.

The history of the band began long before they were famous. Jon Bon Jovi started playing piano and guitar when he was only 13. He played in several different local bands in New Jersey. In 1983, he put together the group we know today. He invited David Bryan, Alec John Such, and Tico Torres to join him. Soon after, Richie Sambora joined as the lead guitarist. Sambora was a longtime member who helped write many songs. He eventually left the band in 2013 to spend more time with his family.
