These pigs love to eat acorns. They find them in oak forests. These forests are called dehesa in Spain. They are called montado in Portugal. There are four types of oak trees there. The trees give acorns from September to April.

The pigs move around a lot in the woods. This helps them burn calories. It also makes their bones fine. The pigs store fat inside their meat. This is called marbling. This fat and the acorns make the ham taste special.
