Bill Cullen was a famous star on radio and television. He was a very important person in the world of game shows. People even gave him the nickname "Dean of Game Show Hosts." This title showed how much he knew about his job. He hosted 23 different shows during his long career. Over his life, he hosted more than 25,000 individual episodes.

His career started with many different jobs in radio. In 1939, he worked at WWSW radio in Pittsburgh. He was a disc jockey and a sports announcer. He even called games for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Hornets. Later, he moved to New York to work at CBS. To earn more money, he wrote jokes for famous stars. These stars included names like Jack Benny and Danny Kaye.

Bill's work on television became very successful. He hosted the first TV version of Winner Take All in 1952. He also hosted the original daytime and primetime versions of The Price Is Right from 1956 to 1965. He was a regular guest on shows like I've Got a Secret and To Tell the Truth. He was so good at guessing that producers sometimes avoided asking him sports questions. He won a Primetime Emmy Award for hosting Three on a Match in 1973.

Bill faced many hard physical challenges during his life. He had polio when he was very young. A car accident in 1937 also made it hard for him to walk or stand. TV directors helped him by designing special sets. They placed podiums and game boards close to him. This allowed him to stay in one place while he worked. Because of these smart designs, many people did not know he had a disability.

He was a very busy and talented man. He was the only person to host all the shows made by his friend, Bob Stewart. These shows included Password and Pyramid. Bill also served as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. He loved racing small midget-cars as a hobby. He lived a long life of work and passed away in 1990.
