Bernhard Riemann was a famous German mathematician. He was born in 1826. He was very good at math as a boy. However, he was often shy in public. He also had weak health.

Riemann studied many hard topics. He helped start a field called Riemannian geometry. This is the study of shapes. He thought about shapes in many dimensions. Most people only think about three or four dimensions. His work helped Albert Einstein later. Einstein used these ideas for his theory of relativity.

Riemann also worked on complex analysis. This is a way to study math using complex numbers. He used shapes called Riemann surfaces to help. He also found a new way to measure areas. This is called the Riemann integral.

Riemann was a very religious man. He saw math as a way to serve God. He died in Italy in 1866. He was praying with his wife when he passed away. He is still known as one of the greatest mathematicians ever.
