Benny Morris is a famous historian from Israel. He was born in 1948. He was a professor at Ben-Gurion University. Morris is known for his work on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This is a long struggle between two groups of people.

Morris used secret files from the Israel State Archives. These files helped him learn new facts. In 1988, he wrote a major book. He showed that many Palestinians were forced from their homes in 1948. Before this, many people thought they left on their own. His work was very important, but it also caused many arguments.

Morris served in the military many times. In 1988, he refused to serve in the West Bank. He felt the military occupation was not right. He spent 19 days in military prison for this choice.

Later in life, his views began to change. He became more conservative. He said the expulsions in 1948 were sometimes necessary to protect the Jewish state. Because of this, many people disagree with him today. Some see him as a brave researcher. Others feel his new views are unfair to Palestinians.
