Bayram al-Tunisi was a famous poet from Egypt. He was born in Alexandria in 1893. His father was from Tunisia. This made some people call him a foreigner.

He learned to write by listening to spoken poems. This style is called zajal. He was a master of this art. Later, he also used a style called maqama.

Bayram used his poems to speak about his country. He wrote about the British rule in Egypt. He also wrote about the Egyptian kings. Some of his poems were satirical. This means they used humor to criticize leaders. Because of his poems, he was sent away from Egypt. This was his exile.

He lived in France and Tunisia for many years. He finally returned to Egypt in 1938. In 1954, he was given Egyptian citizenship. Bayram spoke about building a strong nation. He called this the literature of rescue. This means using writing to help a country stay free. Many other poets were inspired by his work.
