This fight happened because of a disagreement between two large powers. The army of Qajar Iran wanted to control the region. At the same time, the Georgian kingdoms wanted to remain independent. The King of Georgia, Heraclius II, had made a treaty with the Russian Empire. He hoped the Russians would protect his people from Iran.

However, Russia did not send any soldiers to help during the fight.

The conflict began when Agha Mohammad Khan led a large army toward Georgia. He moved his forces across the Aras river in August 1795. His army was very big, with about 70,000 soldiers in total.

The leader sent a final message to King Heraclius II. He told the king to stop working with Russia and follow Iranian rule. The king refused to follow this order. Instead, the Georgian leaders prepared to defend their home. They gathered about 5,000 troops to stand against the much larger force.

The fighting lasted from September 8 to September 11, 1795. The Georgian soldiers fought very hard near the city of Tbilisi. They even pushed back some of the first attacks from the Persians.

On September 11, the Persian army started a huge offensive. They used cannons and horses to cross the Kura River. This allowed them to get around the Georgian lines. The Georgian army was eventually overwhelmed and defeated. Many soldiers died during these intense days of combat.

After the battle, the Iranian army entered the capital city of Tbilisi. The city was destroyed and many people were killed.

The Persian army also took 15,000 captives away from the area. The Georgians lost about 4,000 men in the struggle. On the other side, the Iranians lost 13,000 men. This was a very heavy cost for both sides. The loss of the capital changed the future of Georgia for many years.

This battle led to many more changes in the region. Because the Georgian lands were in ruins, Russia eventually took control of them. This caused two more big wars between Russia and Iran in the 1800s.

These wars were fought over the same lands in Transcaucasia and Dagestan. Eventually, Iran signed treaties that gave these areas to Russia. The Battle of Krtsanisi was a key moment that shaped how these nations lived together. It showed how alliances and wars can change the map of the world.
