We use baryte for many jobs. Most of it goes to oil and gas drilling. It is ground into a fine powder. Then, it is mixed into drilling mud. This mud is very heavy. The weight helps stop high pressure in the well. This keeps the drilling safe.

Baryte also helps in other ways. It is a filler for paint and plastic. It can even make cars quieter. It helps make glass for TV screens. Some people use it as a gemstone. Even though it has barium, it is safe. This is because it does not dissolve in water. It stays solid and does not leak out.
