Ballet is a special way to dance. It uses set steps to move the body. These steps help dancers look graceful.

Dancers work on alignment. This means keeping the head, shoulders, and hips in a straight line. They also use turnout. This is when they rotate their legs outward. Turnout helps with footwork and arm moves. These arm moves are called port de bras.

Dancers also use pointe technique. This is dancing on the tips of the toes. Good technique helps prevent injury. For example, it stops the foot from rolling inward. This can hurt the ankle. Students use a barre to practice. A barre is a tool used for learning. They can practice turns at the barre. Dancers also do small, fast jumps. These are called petit allegro. They also do big, fast leaps. These are called grand allegro. Some styles are different. Russian ballet has high leg moves. Italian ballet has fast footwork. All these parts make ballet beautiful.
