Some people use soft wraps to hold them close. Others use carts with wheels.

Many cultures use on-the-body carriers. A cradleboard is a special kind used by Native Americans. It is a flat board made of wood or twigs. Mothers tie it to their backs. This helps them work and travel. The baby stays safe and snug inside.

Wheeled carts are also very common. Prams are for newborn babies. In a pram, the baby lies down. Strollers are for older children. These children sit up to look forward. In 1733, William Kent made an early stroller. It was a basket on wheels. A goat or pony could pull it!

In 1965, Owen Maclaren made a new kind of stroller. He used light metal from airplanes. This made the stroller easy to carry. Today, many parents use a travel system. This is a set of parts that work together. You can move a baby seat from a car to a stroller. This helps the baby stay asleep.
