It stands in Azadi Square. The tower marks the western entrance to the city. It was built to celebrate the Persian Empire.

An architect named Hossein Amanat designed the tower. He wanted the building to move toward the sky. He used shapes from old Iranian art. The main arch is a Sasanian arch. This style comes from the classical era. Above it is a broken arch. This shape comes from the medieval era. A network of ribs connects these two parts. This shows how the past and later times join together.

The tower is covered in white marble. It uses 8,000 blocks of stone from Isfahan. Workers used computers to help make the complex surfaces.
