Ayyankali was a great leader in India. He lived a long time ago in a place called Travancore.

At that time, many people were treated very unfairly. These people were part of the Pulayar community. They could not own land. They could not even go to school. They were not allowed to use most roads, either.

Ayyankali wanted to change these unfair rules. In 1893, he did something very brave. He rode in a bullock cart on a public road. This was a way to show that everyone should have the right to travel. He also worked hard for education. He knew that all children should be able to learn.

He started a group to help the poor. This group was called the SJPS. When some schools would not let Pulayar children in, he led a strike. Workers stopped working in the fields to demand change. Because of his hard work, many people gained new rights. Ayyankali even became a member of a local assembly. People remember him today as a hero who fought for fairness.
