Augustin Robespierre was a lawyer and a politician in France. He lived during a very big change called the French Revolution.

Augustin was the younger brother of Maximilien Robespierre. Maximilien was a very famous leader of the revolution. Augustin shared many of the same political ideas as his brother. People sometimes called him "Bonbon" because of his character. He was known to be handsome and liked good food and games.

Augustin's life started in a town called Arras. His mother died when he was only one year old. His father left the family and went to Bavaria. Later, Augustin's father died in the year 1777. Augustin was raised by his grandparents. His brother Maximilien was a very smart student. Maximilien won a scholarship to study at the Lycée Louis-le-Grand. When Maximilien finished his law degree, he asked for help. He asked a leader named Cardinal de Rohan to give the scholarship to Augustin. This allowed Augustin to study law just like his brother.

Augustin worked in many important jobs in France. In 1791, he was an administrator for the Pas-de-Calais area. He also helped start a political club in Arras. In September 1792, the people of Paris elected him to the National Convention. He won 392 votes out of 700 total votes. In the Convention, he spoke very strongly against the royal family. He even voted for the death of King Louis XVI. Augustin often traveled with his sister, Charlotte.

During his travels, Augustin met many different people. In 1793, he went to the Alpes-Maritimes region. He and Charlotte had a hard time surviving an attack in Manosque. Later, they went to the city of Nice. While there, he read a pamphlet written by a man named Napoleon. Augustin liked the writing and helped Napoleon's career. He helped Napoleon become a senior gunner at Toulon. In 1794, Augustin traveled to the Army of Italy. He took a woman named La Saudraye with him on this trip.

Things became very dangerous for the leaders in Paris. In July 1794, the Convention voted to arrest Maximilien. Augustin was in the hall when this happened. He stood up and said he was as guilty as his brother. He asked to share the same fate. Augustin tried to escape by jumping from a ledge. He hit the steps and hurt his head and pelvis. He was taken to the Conciergerie prison for a trial. On July 28, 1794, Augustin was executed by the guillotine. He was the third person to die that evening. His brother Maximilien was the tenth person to die.
