Many people once lived on the island. About 300 families had homes there. Now, the village is deserted. This means no one lives there now.

The island has a long history. In 1837, Russian forces stayed on the island. They kept a military post there for many years. They stayed until 1921. Today, the island is a quiet place by the sea. It is part of the Golestan province. It sits near the towns of Bandar Torkaman and Gorgan.
