There are other islands located near Ashuradeh. These include the islands of Akaz and Esmail Sai. Ashuradeh is one of several landforms in this part of the sea. To visit the island, travelers must go through Bandar Torkaman. This town is located near the island. The island is also situated near the city of Gorgan. Its location makes it a distinct part of the Iranian coastline.

The waters surrounding Ashuradeh are very productive. They are vital for the production of caviar. Caviar is a food made from the eggs of certain fish. More than 40% of all caviar produced in Iran comes from the area near Ashuradeh. This is a very large proportion of the country's total amount. The biological activity in this part of the Gulf of Gorgan is significant. It supports a major part of the national industry.

In the past, the island was a place where people lived. A village once existed on Ashuradeh. This village was home to about 300 families. These inhabitants were part of the Turkmen people.

However, the island's population has changed over time. The village that once housed those 300 families is now deserted. This means that no one lives in the village anymore. The island is no longer a permanent residential area for these families. It has transitioned from a populated settlement to a quiet, empty place.

The history of Ashuradeh includes periods of foreign military presence. In 1837, Russian forces occupied the island. This happened despite protests coming from Iran. Following this occupation, the Russian Army established a military post on the land. They maintained this post for several decades. The military presence on the island lasted until the year 1921.

Historical records provide more details about life on the island during the 19th century. For example, a man named Colonel Stebnitzky traveled to the area. He wrote a report about his journey in 1872. Such documents help us understand the island's past. They show how the island was viewed by outsiders during that era. These records connect the island to the wider history of the region.

Today, Ashuradeh remains an important geographical feature. It is classified as a lake island within the Caspian Sea. It is a key part of the Golestan province's landscape. The island is tied to the ecology of the Miankaleh peninsula. Its role in the caviar industry keeps it relevant to the economy of Iran. The island stands as a reminder of both human history and natural importance.
