Arthur Godfrey was a famous star on radio and TV.

In the 1950s, he was very successful. He was heard on the air many days each week. Most announcers back then sounded very stiff and formal. Arthur chose a different way. He spoke like a kind friend talking to just one person. This made people feel close to him.

He also made hit records. One song was a funny tune called "Too Fat Polka." It sold over one million copies. Arthur worked in show business for a very long time. His radio show lasted until 1972.
