Many countries now have special days to mark this event. In the United States, people call it Veterans Day. It honors people who served in the military. In many other lands, it is called Remembrance Day. People often stay quiet for two minutes. This silence shows respect for those who died. In Poland, this date is National Independence Day. It marks when their country became free again in 1918. In Serbia, people wear a flower called Natalie's ramonda to remember. In Romania, people use the Romanian peony to honor soldiers. These days help us think about peace and the past.
