Long ago, two sides were at war. One side was led by Manuchehr. The other side was led by a general named Afrasiab. They wanted to make peace. They made a plan to find a border. They would use a bow and arrow to mark the land. The land where the arrow landed would belong to the Iranians.

An angel told Manuchehr to make a special bow. Arash was the one to shoot it. He shot the arrow at dawn. The arrow flew for a very long time. Some stories say it flew for forty days. It finally hit a walnut tree far away. This shot marked the new border.

In some stories, Arash died from the shot. In other stories, he lived a long life. He became a leader of archers. People in Iran still use his name today. A poet wrote a long poem about him in 1959. This poem tells of his brave act to save his country.
