Antony Beevor is a famous British military historian. A historian is someone who studies the past to understand it. He is well known for writing about big wars. He often writes about the Second World War and the Spanish Civil War. His books are very popular all over the world. Many people have bought over 8.5 million copies of his work. His stories have even been translated into 35 different languages.

Beevor’s life began in Kensington, London, in 1946. He went to several schools, including Winchester College in Hampshire. Later, he went to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He joined the British Army as a cadet there. He even studied under a famous historian named John Keegan. In 1967, he became an officer in the 11th Hussars. Before he was a writer, Beevor was a soldier. He commanded a troop of tanks in Germany. He was promoted to lieutenant in early 1969. However, he decided to change his career path. He resigned from the army in August 1970. After that, he focused on writing history books. He also became a visiting professor at several universities.
