Galland had a very interesting way of working. He first translated stories from an old Syrian manuscript. This was a special book from the fourteenth or fifteenth century. In 1709, he met a man named Hanna Diab from Aleppo. Diab was a storyteller who knew many tales by memory. He told Galland fourteen more stories from his mind. Galland chose to include seven of these in his book. Some famous stories like Aladdin may have come from these talks.

Galland spent many years traveling to learn new things. He was born in Rollot in the Picardy region. He studied Greek and Latin in Paris. Later, he traveled to Istanbul to work at a French embassy. He visited Syria and the Levant to study old monuments. He even collected ancient coins for his research. He learned to speak Arabic, Turkish, and Persian during his travels.

His books were very successful and important. He published his version of the tales in twelve volumes. This started in 1704 and ended in 1717. Many people in Europe became very interested in Middle Eastern culture because of him. His stories were translated into many languages like English, German, and Italian. He also taught Arabic at the Collège de France starting in 1709. He held this important job until he died in 1715.

Galland's work changed how people thought about stories. Some writers believe his translations helped start a new style of writing called Romanticism. Famous writers like Edgar Allan Poe and Lord Tennyson read his work. His books made people dream of magic and faraway lands. Even today, many people think of his translation when they hear these tales. He helped connect different worlds through the power of words.
