The hammer throw is a track and field event. Athletes throw a heavy metal ball attached to a wire. Włodarczyk is widely considered the greatest female hammer thrower in history. She holds the current world record with a throw of 82.98 meters.

She was also the first woman to ever throw the hammer over the 80-meter mark. Her dominance in the sport has earned her many international honors.

Achieving these distances requires immense power and precise technique. The athlete must use rotational movements to build momentum before releasing the hammer. Włodarczyk has broken the world record multiple times throughout her career. In 2009, she set her first world record in Berlin, Germany, with a throw of 77.15 meters. She broke this record again in Bydgoszcz in 2010. On August 1, 2015, she became the first woman to surpass 80 meters.

She later set a new record of 82.29 meters at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Her career is defined by incredible consistency and longevity. Between July 2014 and 2017, she maintained a 42-contest winning streak. Her dominance is reflected in the global rankings. She holds all of the top 15 women's hammer throw results. Furthermore, she holds 27 of the top 30 all-time results. This level of performance is rare in any professional sport. It shows her ability to perform at the highest level for many years.

Włodarczyk's Olympic record is historic. She won gold medals at the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2016, she was retroactively awarded her gold medal. This happened after a reanalysis of samples showed the previous winner used a prohibited substance called turinabol. Włodarczyk is the only woman to win the hammer throw three times in a row at the Olympics. She is also the first woman to win any individual athletics event three times in a row. This makes her one of the most successful Olympians in history.

Her journey began with early successes in her youth. She won her first national U23 championships in 2007. In 2008, she placed fourth at the Beijing Olympic Games. She also earned a bronze medal at the 2008 World Athletics Final. Her first major international gold medal came in 2009 at the European Team Championships. Even after a twisted ankle during a 2009 celebration, she continued to compete. She returned to the sport in 2010 and immediately won in Dakar.

Poland has recognized her achievements with high honors. In 2016, she was named the Polish Sports Personality of the Year. In 2021, she received the Commander's Cross with Star of the Order of Polonia Restituta. This is a high-ranking award for outstanding achievements. She was also named an honorary citizen of the town of Rawicz. Mattel even created a Shero Barbie doll in her image. This doll was made to inspire others to pursue their own dreams.

Beyond her medals, Włodarczyk shows respect for the history of her sport. She uses equipment that once belonged to the late Kamila Skolimowska. This is done as a tribute to her fellow hammer thrower. Her career connects her to the legends of Polish athletics. She ranks third on the all-time medal table for Polish Summer Olympians. She follows only Robert Korzeniowski and Irena Szewińska. Her legacy is built on strength, record-breaking throws, and deep respect for her community.
