Anita Roddick was a famous British businesswoman. She started a company called The Body Shop. It sold beauty products made from nature. She wanted to do business in a kind way.

Her shop was different from others. She did not allow testing on animals. She also used fair trade. This means she bought goods from developing countries fairly. She wanted to help people in those lands.

Anita was also a campaigner. She fought for the environment. She helped groups like Greenpeace. In 1990, she started a group called Children on the Edge. This group helped children in Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe.

She believed business could lead people to be good. She even helped people in prison. She raised money for the Angola Three. These were men held in solitary confinement.

Anita had a large fortune of £51 million. She did not keep it for herself. When she died in 2007, she gave all her money to charity. She wanted to make a big difference in the world.
