Angus Deaton is a very important economist. An economist is a person who studies how people use money and resources.

He wants to understand what makes life good for people. His work looks at big ideas like poverty and inequality. He also studies how health and money are linked together. By studying these things, he helps leaders make better choices for everyone. He is a scholar who cares deeply about the poor.

Much of his work focuses on how people choose to spend their money. In 1980, he published a famous paper about consumer demand. He created something called the Almost Ideal Demand System, or AIDS.

This system helps experts understand how people buy goods. It looks at how prices and income change what people buy. This work was so good it was named a top article in its journal. It helps us see how individual choices affect the whole world.

Deaton's journey began in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1945. He went to Hawick High School and then Fettes College.

Later, he studied at the University of Cambridge. He earned his Ph.D. there in 1975. He worked with a researcher named Richard Stone. After that, he taught at the University of Bristol in 1976. In 1983, he moved to Princeton University in the United States. He is now a professor at Princeton and the University of Southern California.

He has received many grand honors for his smart work. In 2015, he won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.

This is one of the highest awards in the world. He also won the Frisch Medal in 1978. In 2016, he was knighted by the Queen for his research. He has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences too. These awards show how much people value his ideas.

Recently, Deaton and Anne Case studied health in America. They looked at why some people were dying sooner than others.

They found that some middle-aged people faced very hard times. They called these "deaths of despair" because of things like drugs and alcohol. They saw that people with less education were at higher risk. This research shows how jobs and health are connected. It helps us understand how to help people live better lives.
