Playing hockey required great skill and a strong spirit. Angela learned to play in a boys' league when she was eight. At first, officials did not want girls to play. She had to work very hard to prove she belonged.

She moved from playing with young children to playing against grown women. When she was only 13, she played for the Newtonbrook Saints. This was a senior team. She learned to play different positions to help her teammates succeed. She even played defense to help set up plays for the team.
