He lived in Miletus a long time ago. He was part of a group called the Milesian School. This group included thinkers named Thales and Anaximander. Together, they are seen as the first philosophers in the West.

Anaximenes had a big idea about the world. He believed air was the basic thing that makes everything. He called this the arche. He thought air could change into other things. If air becomes thick, it turns into clouds, water, or stone. If air becomes thin, it turns into fire.

He also had ideas about space. He thought the Earth was a flat disc. He believed it floated on top of the air. He said the Sun moved around the Earth. Anaximenes was one of the first people to use science to explain nature. He did not use gods to explain how things change. Instead, he looked at how the world works. His work helped lead to the science we use today.
