He was born in a place called Clazomenae. Later, he moved to the city of Athens. He became a close friend of a leader named Pericles. One day, Anaxagoras faced a trial. He was accused of impiety. This means people thought he did not respect the gods. Because of this, he had to leave Athens. He moved to a place called Lampsacus. He died there around the year 428 BC.

Anaxagoras had many big ideas about nature. He believed a force called Nous, or Mind, ordered the world. He thought the Sun was a huge, hot mass of metal. He also said the Moon reflects light from the Sun. He was the first to explain how eclipses work. Anaxagoras even thought life could exist everywhere in space. He believed that tiny parts of all things are mixed together. This idea is called panspermia. People in Lampsacus honored him for a long time. They even held a yearly celebration in his memory.
