Analytical chemistry is a way to study what things are made of.

Scientists use it to find out what is in a mix. They also find out how much of it is there. This is like being a science detective.

Some ways are very old. One way is a flame test.

A flame can change color to show a specific element. Another way is titration. This is a set of steps to find a concentration. A concentration tells us how much of a substance is in a liquid.

Today, scientists use big machines. One tool is mass spectrometry.

This tool uses electric and magnetic fields. It measures the mass of tiny molecules. Another tool is spectroscopy. This measures how light and matter work together.

Scientists also use chromatography to separate mixes.

In this way, different parts of a mix move at different speeds. This helps them see each part clearly. This work helps make new medicines. It also helps us study the earth and our food.
