He believed all nations should belong to one single family. This idea is called internationalism. He wanted to create a world state for everyone. This state would be built on new, fair rules. He hoped this would bring peace to all people. His big ideas helped shape how some people think about the world today.

Cloots worked hard to share his vision for humanity. He often spoke in front of large groups of people. He called himself the "Orator of the Human Race." This title showed he wanted to represent all people, not just one country. He even gave 12,000 livres to help arm fighters against tyranny.

He also wrote many books to explain his thoughts. One important book was called "Bases constitutionnelles de la République du genre humain." He used writing to spread his message across borders.

Cloots was born into a noble Prussian family near Kleve.

He was born on June 24, 1755. When he was eleven, he moved to Paris for school. He studied at a famous military academy in Berlin. His uncle was a diplomat and a geographer named Cornelius de Pauw. These early years helped him learn about politics and the world. He eventually left France in 1785 to prepare for a future change.

In 1789, the French Revolution began, and Cloots returned to Paris. He wanted to help create a universal family of nations. On June 19, 1790, he led thirty-six foreigners to speak to the government. He said the whole world supported the Rights of Man. Later, he became a member of the National Convention. In September, he was even given French citizenship. He even voted to punish King Louis XVI in the name of all people.

However, the time of the Revolution became very dangerous. Some leaders, like Maximilien Robespierre, did not want Cloots in their clubs. The Committee of Public Safety accused him of being part of a foreign plot. Even though he was innocent, the leaders decided to punish him. Cloots was executed by guillotine on March 24, 1794.
