She was a pioneer in the world of flight. In 1930, she became the first woman to fly alone from England to Australia. She flew a plane named Jason. The trip was 11,000 miles long.

This great feat made her famous all over the world.

Amy also set many other records. In 1931, she flew from London to Tokyo. She did this with a co-pilot named Jack Humphreys. Later, she married another pilot named Jim Mollison. They flew together in many races. In 1934, they set a record time from Britain to India.

During the Second World War, Amy joined the Air Transport Auxiliary. This group moved planes around the country. Sadly, Amy died in 1941. Her plane went down in the Thames Estuary. The weather was very cold and snowy. Because her body was never found, no one knows exactly how she died. Some think she ran out of fuel. Others think a ship may have hit her plane.
