Some scholars think his mother was from Nubia.

Amenemhat I moved the capital to a place called Itjtawy. He worked to make the government strong again. He built a large pyramid at El-Lisht.

The pyramid used limestone blocks and mudbrick. It was not built very well. Because of this, it is now a ruined mound. He also built a temple near his pyramid.

He had a son named Senusret I. The two men ruled the land together. This was called a co-regency.

It helped the son prepare to lead. Some stories say the king was killed by his guards. These stories come from old Egyptian writings. He was a very important leader in Egypt's history.
