The name Amaravati has a very special meaning. It translates to "the abode of immortals." In many religions like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, it is seen as a celestial capital. This is a heavenly place where the Devas, or gods, live. The city takes its name from a nearby historic site. That ancient site was once the capital of the Satavahana Empire.
